New Generations is Rotary’s fifth Avenue of Service.

The goal of our club’s New Generation Committee is to connect new generations to Rotary International and to develop new leaders.  We do this by supporting Interact, RYLA and Youth Exchange programs. Foxboro Rotary’s New Generations Committee co-chairs and Interact Club advisors are Lew Gordon and Kay Andberg.

Interact

The Foxboro Interact Club is a community-based club that is open to any Foxboro student in grades 8 – 12.  Currently members are students in Foxboro High School, Bishop Feehan School, Foxboro Regional Charter School and Ahern Middle School.  Homeschoolers as well as students in any other school are welcome at anytime.  Meetings are held every other week at the Hockomock YMCA’s Foxboro Branch from 7 – 8pm.  Meeting notices are posted on Facebook—look for Foxboro Interact.

The Foxboro Interact club is sponsored by The Foxboro Rotary Club, which provides support and guidance, but the teen club is self-governing and self-supporting.  Each year, Interact clubs need to complete at least two community service projects, one of which furthers international understanding and goodwill. Through these efforts, Interactors develop a network of friendships with local and overseas clubs and learn the importance of

  • Developing leadership skills and personal integrity
  • Demonstrating helpfulness and respect for others
  • Understanding the value of individual responsibility and hard work
  • Advancing international understanding and goodwill

As one of the most significant and fastest-growing programs of Rotary service, with more than 10,700 clubs in 109 countries and geographical areas, Interact has become a worldwide phenomenon. Almost 200,000 young people are involved in Interact.

RYLA—Rotary Youth Leadership Awards

District 7950 provides an annual three-day Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) Conference each spring. RYLA offers high school sophomores and juniors from Rotary District 7950 (Southeastern MA and northern RI) the opportunity to live, work and interact together in an atmosphere of cooperation and friendly competition. The program is designed to challenge the participants to utilize and improve their skills and accept the responsibilities of leadership. Aimed at developing the leadership potential of young men and women, the conference features many thought-provoking events including interactive Leadership Labs, exciting guest speakers, and challenging mental and physical activities that provide the participants with a chance to excel amongst and with their peers. Topics include decision-making, critical thinking, communicating effectively, team building, ethics, and public service.

The Foxboro Rotary Club supports this program by providing adult volunteers, advertising the program within our community and sponsoring students!

Youth Exchange

Rotary International offers both long-term and short-term Youth Exchange programs. As a Rotary Youth Exchange student you’ll learn a new way of living, a great deal about yourself, and maybe even a new language. You’ll also be an ambassador, teaching people you meet about your country, culture, and ideas. You can help bring the world closer – and make some good friends in the process.

For over 75 years, students and host families have broadened their horizons through Rotary Youth Exchange. More than 80 countries and over 8,000 students each year participate in the program, which is administered at the regional level by Rotary districts and at the local level by Rotary clubs.  Rotary clubs are made up of volunteers who are involved in community service, emphasize high ethical standards, and work toward peace and understanding in the world. Over 1.2 million Rotarians in more than 32,000 clubs create the extensive network that provides support for Youth Exchange.

Foxboro Rotary Club offers support to short-term Youth Exchange programs and is interested in long-term programs as well. Speak to a club member about your interest and we can connect you to people in District 7950 who organize these programs!
