Rotary in Action at Guerrero
Posted by Lew Gordon on Apr 16, 2017
Our members Jim and Joan were active at the last free eye clinic in Guerrero Mexico. This is the clinic to which we donated money to purchase a new surgical microscope to use in treating patients from the Tarahamaro Indian and Mennonite communities around Guerro.
Here is our microscope in action!
Here are some statistics on what happened over the 4 days of the clinic.
Stats from this and earlier clinics show that approximately ¼ of all patients are blind from cataracts in both eyes. Working with local churches that provide housing and food to overnight patients, this last clinic performed 1056 eye exams, dispensed 648 pairs of glasses, and performed 202 cataract surgeries – all in one week!
